These Boots Are Made For Walkin'
Has it really been that long?
Seems like just yesterday that I was walking in the street by the pool and saw you coming towards me on your bike. We had not really spoken to each other at that point, just traded shy smiles and hellos. I remember hoping I could get you to smile that day.
You did, and then after you passed me, I turned around to look at you and you had turned around to look at me. You got nervous when you saw me turn. You wobbled on the bike and I was afraid you might fall over, but you got yourself straightened out. I turned around to continue my walk, thinking 'He knows, he knows! He feels it too! Yay!'
That was the first moment I truly let myself believe that we would be a couple someday.
Since then we have had many great adventures, usually full of laughter and magic. Of course there have to be stormy days, and lonely nights as well, but I truly believe that our bond is stronger than ever before, in spite of the storms, or maybe even because of them. We have learned to appreciate each other more than in earlier years. And like any couple, we believe that we invented love, that no one else in the whole world has our type of magic.
That magic has grown even though we are so far apart right now, with you in the little blue house and me in the big white one. We have our special days to celebrate each other, and we make new special days just for fun because a love like ours should not be acknowledged just once a year, in a tidy box on the calendar.
We are not box people, We follow our own star. And even though right now I have just one functioning wing, I would fly with you to the moon and beyond if you asked me to.
I love you more than you will ever believe. You are my soul. Thank you for the past 17 years and thank you in advance for the next 17!

“La Werita” & “Piloncillo” performed an “Oath of Love” in 2008 during the Relay for Life event. A year later, she accompanied me for the entire 24-hour event. During that time, we had a “rough” training session. We left for the desert early, and we started walking short distances (one way, starting from the airport park, not including leaving home): 1 mile, 5 miles, 9 miles. We covered more and more routes, including breakfasts we prepared the day before; we walked at a steady pace together. There were so many anecdotes, like when we were having breakfast and she saw a deer crossing (I was looking the other way) and she yelled, “A deer.” I jumped with the camera to see if I could “catch” it with a video, but no matter how hard I ran, I didn’t catch it. We also visited Agua Prieta, where we tried different dishes: "Tortas el Rinconcito," "Tatos Pizza," "Panaderia Los Pinos," "AP'a Taco," "El Pollo Loco," and "La Palapa." We took advantage of the opportunity to visit our friends and hike outside of Agua Prieta, all with the goal of training "Werita" for the upcoming 144-hour Ultramarathon and 24-hour RFL. As our first engagement anniversary approached, we had a unique event because it rained a lot, especially at night, and our change of clothes got wet. "Werita" applied all the experience from our training. It was a lot of fun leading the event, which we successfully completed, with the following results: 1. "Werita" completed 24 hours 2. "Piloncillo" completed 112 miles

WARRIOR SPIRIT
On June 7-13, 2009, the 6-day/144-hour Ultramarathon finally arrived, the ultimate test for Debbie: competing in a multi-day event.
She had already participated in a 5K event on March 3 of the same year called "5kRun4Books," in preparation for the 1st Earth's Day event on April 25, also in 2009.
Before the event, Debbie & “Piloncillo” prepared their strategies:
1. Debbie, with the number "8," would walk (at the pace they had trained for) throughout the event, trying to accumulate over 100 miles. She had been advised to participate in the 100-mile sub-event, but she decided on the 6-day challenge: during the day, she would walk, and at night, she would go home to rest.
2- "Pilocillo," number "3," would try to beat his previous record of 110 miles from the previous year's event. In the mornings from 6 to 7, he would go swimming to loosen his muscles. He had trained 24 hours in advance on the same route.
During the event, they met two excellent runners who became GREAT FRIENDS, Barbara, Mike Allen (Olympic cyclist) 1964 Tokyo Olympics & Bob number "6" (2009 event winner). During the night/day, while they walked, they shared experiences and anecdotes from their daily lives. Arriving on Thursday night, the "tragedy" struck. "Piloncillo" had blisters on his toes and soles of his feet (he had never had that problem before). He decided to rest on Friday and try to heal his wounds.
Debbie continued with the event. On Friday night, she returned with the news that she had surpassed the 100-mile mark. A SUCCESS FOR HER!!!.
"Piloncillo" decided to continue with the event because there was a runner close behind who could knock him off third place. So on Saturday, he ran the necessary distance to secure his third place.
When the final results arrived, they were very satisfactory. They had both kept their promises:
1-Debbie 110.25 miles,
She wore her favorite t-shirt with the slogan “Bad Hare Day” (a day that makes things generally difficult) which was actually 6 days, and that she overcame them with a WARRIOR SPIRIT.
2-"Piloncillo" 225.75 miles
This is where Debbie demonstrated a POSITIVE ATTITUDE, DISCIPLINE, and PERSEVERANCE.

When Debbie & Piloncillo made their “OATH OF LOVE,” they made it “PARA SIEMPRE,” no matter what obstacles prevented them from fulfilling it.
“TE QUIERO” was a video that emphasized this AMOR they had for each other.
2010 began a year with the best wishes. They eagerly prepared for upcoming events: 144 Hours, Run For Life, Run 4 Books, 2nd Earth Day. There was enthusiasm to create more “Identity Days,” “Walk With Us,” and there was a lot of trust, but… an obstacle prevented these plans, and the first separation came on February 14, 2010.
“Piloncillo” left for Mexico, and everything fell apart like a “Sand Castle.” They had no idea about their future as a couple.
Debbie's mother and "Piloncillo's" parents believed they had divorced, but it was quite the opposite. They both wanted to solidify their relationship, as it had grown day by day.
“POR TI VOLARÉ” was their slogan, defending the love they wouldn't allow to be taken away so easily.
"Piloncillo," already in Mexico, fought to continue their shared projects, building their “Casita Azul.”
Debbie was also making plans to adapt to Mexico, including the food, festivities, customs, etc. It was a HUGE CHALLENGE.
They had NEW HOPE and were very excited.
Now, 17 years later, it has been confirmed that the "OATH OF LOVE" is still in place and will remain “PARA SIEMPRE,” because remembering “TE QUIERO” every day makes EL MAS GRANDE AMOR prevails.

K's Story

One fine day K decided to take inventory of the goods she had for sale in her little puesto.
She wrote everything down on a small scrap of paper.
the first line said K, because that was her name and she liked to write it even though no one ever used it.
Then she wrote 78 dancing blue monkeys on sticks. gee, maybe she had bought a few too many of that toy!
Next was 48 purple and white furry panda bears. she could not understand why no one seemed interested in those.
And why did she still have 62 striped giraffes? they were so cute but no one seemed to want striped giraffes. how strange.
She did understand why there were 56 pink skunks left. who ever heard of a pink skunk? major mistake with those, for sure.
Finally she got to the last item, 79 bright orange iguana figurines. she had to admit they were a little hard on the eyes, but still......
K was finished with her inventory. she was also depressed. who would ever buy these unusual toys?
just then a man entered the shop and said 'i will give you 18,202.40 in cash for everything here!
K was no fool most of the time, so she agreed and went to live in Tlaxcala with an old friend named Piloncillo.
no one knows what happened to any of the toys. the man simply loaded them all up that very day and disappeared.
maybe he is wandering the streets even now, offering the toys for sale.
or maybe at Christmas there will be bright orange iguanas in everyone's stockings?!
A true story, and thus suggested the 17th version of Por Ti Volaré, because the message Debbie Bond 007 sent to "Piloncillo" was misinterpreted, hence the photos of Douglas's trip to México in June 2010.
Mike Allen
Olympic Cyclist, 1964 Tokyo Olympics
Born May 20, 1935, he is an American cyclist, runner, and endurance athlete.
He represented the United States in the team time trial at the 1964 Summer Olympics, where his team placed 20th.
After the 1964 Olympics, Allen resumed running and cycling.
Furthermore, during the late 1970s, Allen was also nationally ranked in race-walking.
Between 1976 and 1987, Allen competed in 28 ultradistance running races.
In 1986, Allen won a six-day race where he ran 437.25 miles.
As of 2023, at the age of 88, Allen continued to train for cycling.
The Tour of Tucson Allen carried the Olympic torch in Arizona for the 1996 Summer Olympics torch rel.
Bob Oberkehr
A veteran ultrarunner, he won the 6-day Endurance Run Douglas AZ event, June 7-13, 2009, 5th edition, in high temperatures, on a 3/4-mile loop, supported by 300 volunteers.
After the event, he published the results in the prestigious magazine for ultramarathon events, ULTRARUNNING.
